Discipleship Seminar: "Breaking the Enchantments of Modern Life"

Discipleship Seminar: "Breaking the Enchantments of Modern Life"

Saturday, February 11, 2023, 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM

Location: Celebration Community Church, 501 Celebration Pl, Celebration, FL US 34747

Stories have the power to shape us in profound ways. For decades C. S. Lewis’s "The Chronicles of Narnia" has captured our imaginations and helped us to glimpse the beauty and glory of Christ. It also teaches us much about living as faithful Christians in the midst of a modern world. In "The Silver Chair" we are introduced to Puddleglum, a pessimist-turned-hero who speaks out against the evil enchantments of the Lady of the Green Kirtle as she attempts to mislead about the nature of transcendent reality and truth.

Puddleglum’s impassioned speech is incredibly relevant and instructive for our own day, even if you are unfamiliar with the Narnia narrative. How DO we break all the various enchantments of modern life? That’s the question we will seek to tackle in this seminar. Dr. Joe Rigney joins us again to help us wrestle through these issues. All teens and adults are welcome to attend.

You do NOT need to be familiar with Narnia or C. S. Lewis in order to join us.
No cost. Light refreshments will be provided. Please register above for yourself or for a group.

NOTE: There will be no childcare for this event.

Dr. Joe Rigney serves as President and Associate Professor of Theology and Literature at Bethlehem College and Seminar in Minneapolis, MN. He and his wife, Jenny, have three sons. He loves to teach classes on C. S. Lewis, Shakespeare, Jonathan Edwards, political philosophy, and medieval theology. Dr. Rigney also serves as a pastor at Cities Church in St. Paul, MN, and is a contributing writer for Desiring God. Last year in February, he joined us here at CCC to teach a seminar entitled, “What is Man? Thinking Biblically About Our Humanity.”
We are excited to welcome him back!
