When the first generation of Christians in the Book of Acts sought to obey the Great Commission, what did they do? They dedicated themselves to planting and strengthening local churches that faithfully taught and lived the Gospel. The global church, made up of individual local churches, is central to what God is doing in the world. And yet the church is always in danger of loosing its biblical moorings or being influenced more by culture and tradition and preference than by God’s Word.
In this course, we will examine what the Bible has to say about the Church and the role that individual believers are to play in her communal life. Among the topics we will introduce: What us the Church’s mission? What sorts of activities should a church engage in? What does a church do when it gathers? What are the marks of a healthy, biblical Church? Who leads the Church? Why formally partner with a church? And how should we serve in the Church?
